Binah Taylor
MA, MFT

Psychotherapist, Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor

Mounting stress and/or uncertainty about the future can be anxiety provoking. The loss of a significant relationship will most likely bring heartbreak and confusion, along with emotional challenges. Life transitions and unwelcome changes may also be hard to bear. These are a few examples where talking and being listened to without judgment can make a real difference. I offer a confidential and reflective space so you can explore freely to open up possibilities and build trust in your resilience.

About me and my practice

Compassion, empathy and openness are the touchstones of my therapeutic work with clients. I see therapy as a collaborative process: it's a special conversation where honesty and authenticity are the drivers. Also important are curiosity and creative imagination, which I feel are vital component in providing both inspiration and deeper insights.

While we can think of therapy as getting in touch with difficult emotions and speaking about awkward matters, there is a place for humour (the non-shaming kind) too. Discharging tensions through laughter and appreciating the irony of situations are wonderful therapeutic tools.

Having found my own therapy beneficial I wanted to give back what had been given to me. I then embarked on a series of trainings to become a psychotherapist. I know what it feels like to be a client and recall those first few sessions where I felt as much resistance as eagerness to work through some painful issues. I remember when the shift occurred and I began to look forward to the sessions, knowing it was a safe space where I would be heard, as well as emotionally nourished.

My goal is to support you in how you wish to be in your life, your work, your relationships. I invite you to cross the threshold knowing you will be welcomed as you are.

Experience

I have more than 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist, initially in California where I undertook a master's degree followed by post graduate licensure and practised for ten years. Returning to the UK in 2000, I headed up domestic abuse programmes as well as developed a private practice as a psychotherapist. I became registered with the BACP in 2002.

While I continue to work as a clinical supervisor for organisations delivering perpetrator programmes and support for victims, my main focus is private therapeutic work with individuals and couples. This includes helping clients with anxiety, loss and bereavement, challenging relationships, communication, as well as the lingering effects of trauma whether in adulthood or childhood.

My theoretical orientation is integrative (that is, drawing on different theories and modalities). While my focus is the present moment, I do invite clients to reflect on their childhood, such as family dynamics and attachments, to increase awareness. I also find it helpful to pay attention to bodily signals because that can free up feelings and lead to more understanding.

I have been fortunate to work with clients from diverse backgrounds and ethnicity as well as all ages, which has enhanced my practice. Travelling widely and living and working in four continents have also given me appreciation of different cultural viewpoints and values.
